A 59 second compilation of Na-kel Smith bailing and rolling out of slams in North Hollywood, filmed by willfounded in 2020. Shows him tucking, rotating and popping back up after hard falls.

Why skaters like it

Posted in beginner threads as a lesson in how to fall. Skaters point to the way he turns impact into rotation and rolls out instead of bracing with his hands.

“If you fall backwords, don't be a plank, be a banana, if you fall forwards, tuck your shoulder in and roll onto your back. Turn it into rotation instead of impact.”

While the pads are great, I would highly highly recommend learning to fall right. If you fall backwords, don't be a plank, be a banana, if you fall forwards, tuck your shoulder in and roll onto your back. Turn it into rotation instead of impact. Look up Na-kel Smith [VIDEO]

When you start falling, try to take a couple steps backwards while in a crouching position and look at your knees (moving your head like that will prevent it from hitting the ground.) Land on the area slightly above your butt and roll back in a fetal position. It'll look similar to this [VIDEO] but without the hop backwards. A lot of skaters also try to skid on their back instead on rolling backwards, but I prefer th

Wear a helmet and pads. I always hated wearing them because I thought they looked silly, but they really don’t. Plus they have saved me from a lot of injuries! I would also recommend just practicing to fall and bail. On my first day learning to skateboard, I would just ride down a steep hill that led to grass and when I got to the grass, I would just practice bailing. It made me more confident on what to do if I fall
