Jeff Grosso narrates a Loveletters to Skateboarding episode about slams, with clips of pros bailing and an Arto Saari line on spending half your time on the ground. Season 3, Vans Off the Wall TV.

Why skaters like it

Linked to beginners scared of falling or getting hurt. Shows that pros slam constantly and that bailing means you are trying.

No let's be fucking real, every pro skater falls for stupid shit. Just because they are the best skaters in the world doesn't mean they are perfect. I have seen plenty of pros eat it on flat ground. This is known as the sneak attack [VIDEO]

Don't try anything crazy, skate within your comfort zone, and learn to fall properly. Doing that will just get you banged up and scraped, nothing serious. Ankle rolls do happen, like if you somehow land with your front foot still in the sliding position. The worst injuries I've experienced so far have been a couple sprained ankles and once I somehow sprained my knee. Once you learn how to fall properly, it becomes something to laugh at 90% of the time, and reminds you that skateboarding is real. This commentary by Jeff Grosso on slams [VIDEO] is probably the motivation you need.
