Rat Vision explains what ABEC ratings, Swiss and ceramic bearings mean for skateboard bearings. It covers tolerances, bearing loads, raceways and marketing claims, from a 2012 tech channel.

Why skaters like it

Posted whenever someone asks if ABEC 7 or Swiss bearings are worth the money. Commenters use it to argue the ratings are mostly marketing.

“If there's any noticeable difference between them when skating, it's not because of a rating created exclusively for measuring tolerances in high RPM precision machinery :)”

[VIDEO] your bearings probably just need to break in a little bit.

The problem is that you had no bearing spacers. Cause they help even load and your bearings wont blow out. And if you spend more than 15 on bearings your fucking stupid. All bearings can have the same speed no matter what price. Its the lube that really counts. Most bearings are exactly the same but with a diferent shield. [VIDEO]

sorry to break it down to you but "swiss" is just a marketing term too. There's no difference between regular and swiss bearings. The name is there to give you an impression of precision and quality. The same guy explains it: [VIDEO]

You'll want to do that every time you put new bearings in, if the bearings aren't in properly they won't be aligned and will work against each other. [VIDEO] Video shows what I mean somewhere in there, pretty informational (although the guy can come off as a bit annoying / overly excited, he is very knowledgeable so just deal with it).

It's all mostly bullshit. Watch. ABEC, Swiss, Ceramic, Skateboard & Longboard Bearings [VIDEO]

Not true. Most all skateboard bearings are not "rated" to true ABEC standards. Most bearings today are Chinese-made, even some called "Swiss". And you can get the bearing shields printed with anything you want on them, I could get a set of ABEC 1,000,000 if I wanted to. Watch this video- [VIDEO]
