So you're looking for a cruiser? Landyachtz Dinghy [VIDEO] are pretty nice, canadian company that makes longboards / cruisers. Here [LINK] is their lineup. If you want to get into learning tricks, you could get a popsicle shaped board with softer wheels; something like this [LINK] with some 1/4" risers [LINK] (complete builder only allows 1/8" risers for some reason, have to add to cart separate). As for learning, it'll take you a few weeks of pushing to get comfortable on the board, depending on how often you practice. The more you ride the better you get, but those first few weeks are the hardest. Once you can push around confidently & balance without wiping out, it's all uphill from there.

LandYachtz Dinghy hands down the first and best skateboard for work commute I bought. It comes built if you want with LY Bear Trucks and LY Hawgs wheels. The quality for a cruiser is unmatched in my opinion. Its got the smoothest ride you can still carve ollie flip whatevs or not. This board will increase your love for skateboarding and is a gateway drug for skateboarding in my opinion. You will also find the wrecktangle on this page which is the new board I got this year. Not gonna lie I am fixing to get weird with it :) . [VIDEO] [LINK]

Go in-between. Get a dinghy [VIDEO] from landyachtz. Nice big soft wheels like a longboard or a cruiser, but smaller than a traditional skateboard. That's what I plan to do for my daughter (she's been using an off-brand penny board and if she wants to keep learning, this summer I'm upgrading her)
