The Berrics has Nyjah Huston and Curren Caples skate $20 department store boards from Walmart. Trucks barely turn, wheels barely spin and the griptape fails, so even top pros struggle.

Why skaters like it

Posted in r/NewSkaters whenever a parent or beginner asks about a cheap Walmart or Target complete. It shows why a shop-built setup is worth the money.

“You should upgrade from the walmart asap, especially if you're already trying to ollie curbs and landing kickflips.”

I am 25 and have been back into skating for the past 4 years as an adult... I was around 225-230 when I started and finally found the old scale in the basement & weighed myself today, down to 200 and still feel like I'm losing weight. I am like 1 inch taller than you... Was in similar body situation when I started back up. Those cheap walmart boards have really crappy aluminum / plastic trucks usually, cheap metal. H

Good on ya for supporting your son's interests. I wish more parents would. As for the board, the Wal-Mart decks are... I'll let the pros say it: [VIDEO] [VIDEO] That said, it depends on the type of riding he wants to do. The best way to get him rocking is to take him down to the locally-owned skate shop; not a Zumiez. I had a quick look at your submission history and I'm guessing you live at home. If you're serious about wanting to skateboard see if you can convince your parents of that and to invest in a *proper* skateboard for you (then look after it, no s

It's worth noting that a $30 sport shop board will be very difficult to learn tricks on. It's probably totally fine to learn to push/balance, but once you're ready to learn to ollie I'd pick up a cheap legit deck. [VIDEO]

The problem is that it's a Wal-Mart board. [VIDEO] Scrounge up $70 and invest in an entry level deck.
