VLSkate's Quick Tips Ep. 4 from 2016 covers common ollie problems and how to fix them. Aimed at beginners who have just learned ollies and want more height and cleaner form.

Why skaters like it

Gets linked in r/NewSkaters whenever someone can't ollie or can't get height. Skaters say it explains the hop and the slide better than the usual pop harder advice.

“you have to pop and hop, are you just popping and expecting magic to carry you and the board into the air? pop+(jump + slide) = ollie.”

Looking at it at half speed, it looks like you're starting the foot slide a half second too early - look at this screenshot [LINK]; try timing the slide so you give the board a little time to pop, it looks like you are sliding your foot before the tail even snaps. This will also make the board come up into your back foot a bit more, rather than the tail end sagging down like it is now [LINK] in most attempts [LINK].

You're on the right track, practice on using your back foot to press down and jump up at the same time. But don't shift your weight to the back, keep it center, or else your board will fly forward. From what I see, your weight is towards the tail. Practice sliding your front foot, doesn't have to be exaggerated like in many video guides, even a small slide can make a huge difference in leveling your board out. Your f

Pull your back foot up all the way you can and emphasize on sliding your front foot across the board, your foot placement could be a little off too. I recommend you watching VLskates Ollie Tutorial, it really helped me as well. [VIDEO] Good luck and have fun skating :)

if you want to get ollies higher, you have to lift your back foot up after you pop. vlskate made a video on ollies [VIDEO] which helped me a lot.
