VLSkate runs through 10 beginner tricks that do not need an ollie: bomb drop, powerslide, wall bounce, fake nose stall, manual, firecracker, BS 180, revert, 5050 and kick up. Part 2 of a series from 2017.

Why skaters like it

Posted to new skaters who cannot ollie yet and need other tricks to build board control and confidence.

“Probably easier just to show a video. This was one of the first 'tricks' I ever learned. Probably after tick tack/ kick turns. It is more about commitment than anything.”

The channel VLSkate has 2 videos on begineer friendly tricks, I encourage you to check them out: Part 1 [VIDEO] | Part 2 [VIDEO] As for the ollie thing, what worked for me was to hang on to a fence, that way your shoulders will not rotate plus you'll have more control over your board.

Probably easier just to show a video [VIDEO]. (starts at 58 sec). This was one of the first 'tricks' I ever learned. Probably after tick tack/ kick turns. It is more about commitment than anything. EDIT: Funny story about power sliding... Even though I skated a little in my teens, I didn't get into skating until my 20s. I was living in Japan in 2003. I used to head out at midnight and skate around the train station

Yeah, this [VIDEO] and this video [VIDEO] are cool as well from VLSkate. Boneless feel good when you get them just right and stomp the board mid air.

Man it's a plank of wood with wheels screwed onto it, it's as manual of an object as you can get, theres no easy way, there's no cheat codes. You seem to have natural talent, you just need to hone it. There are also a lot of pre-ollie tricks and things that you can do to familiarize yourself with being on and off your board in different ways. I highly recommend watching these videos and pick and choose what you like

This is how a kid quits skateboarding. The frustration is palpable. Why do kids think learning to ollie is step one? I’ve been skating for 35 years and I’ve seen it over and over. He is not even close to ready to begin starting to imagine an ollie. I didn’t even attempt an ollie until I had more than a year of skating under my belt. Master all of this first. VLSkate breaks it down... [VIDEO] [VIDEO] [VIDEO] Edit: Exp

- Fakie shuvits (never tried but I hear they’re easy) - Rolling off a curb or ledge (just do a small manual when you reach the end, like a kick turn) - Dropping in (not very easy at first, they’re very scary, but once you drop in for the first time, it’s amazing - videos by vlskate, one of the best skating channels out there [VIDEO] [VIDEO] [VIDEO] [VIDEO]
