Braille Skateboarding tutorial where Aaron Kyro explains pushing mongo versus regular, with 3D animation. Covers why foot placement matters for new skaters. Part of the Braille VS series, episode 2, from 2013.

Why skaters like it

Gets linked whenever a new skater asks if pushing mongo is bad. It explains the trick setup and balance downsides in under three minutes.

“The weird rebalancing/repositioning of back foot after placing front foot on, makes for a longer setup time for gaps and can throw you off balance.”

Consider tightening your trucks just a bit, that helped me out when I first started. If you can only pop while riding regular you definitely need to learn how to push regular, or even mongo. This is mongo, but I STRONGLY suggest you keep trying to ride regular, mongo can fuck you up. [VIDEO]

Aaron Kyro does a really good job [VIDEO] of covering why mongo sucks. It sums it up really well.

Here's a video: [VIDEO] TLDW: It's harder to set up tricks when pushing mongo and it looks weird.

Do whatever you're comfortable with. It looks like you're making really good progress despite pushing that way. I'd say just do what's working for you (unless you get to a point where pushing that way isn't working for some reason, then perhaps re-evaluate.) Here's a video that goes over pushing mongo vs. regular. [VIDEO]

Uhm, guys, doesn't this just mean he is mongo? Pushes one way and tricks the other? My buddy is mongo, he pushes with his left foot on the board and his right foot on the ground(doing the push) but when we start doing tricks his right foot is on the top of the board doing the flicks while his left foot is on the back doing the pop. Give me a moment to give a visual demonstration of the way I'm thinking you should ska

i had this issue when i first started skating. are you pushing mongo? [VIDEO] (video if you dont know what im talking about) when i first started skating i would push mongo and my stance on my board was goofy and i couldnt do any tricks. but once i learned to properly push i quickly found out i skate regular. i know that was my issue.

It's not about amount of time for you it's # foot repositions of course you can setup quicker doing mongo because you've been doing it for months/years. Here is a video explaining why it's more awkward skating mongo [VIDEO]
