The Berrics tests Santa Cruz's VX Deck, a thinner composite-construction board marketed as far stronger than standard maple. Released in 2019, with break and durability testing.

Why skaters like it

Gets linked when someone asks about snap-resistant decks, especially bigger skaters who keep breaking boards or getting pressure cracks.

“… Looks like a good option for the bigger guys.”

The truth is 99% of boards from major brands (like the ones you listed) are 7 plys of hard rock maple, and everyone is gonna get pressure cracks especially if you tighten the hardware too tight. You'll just as easily get a story about why board brand x is great as you would someone complaining about how their board from the same brand broke first session. Even crazier is that there are only three manufacturers that make the majority of decks across all major brands. For instance, real, polar, and baker are all made in the same woodshop. Having said that, Santa cruz has a technology called VX [VIDEO] Those do run like $95 though

Have you seen the new santa cruz vx decks? [VIDEO] I haven't tried them out but apparently they ride well and are way more snap resistant. Those composite boards are often hit or miss but it's worth checking out.
