Andrew Reynolds breaks down his 2012 Baker setup in a one-minute Alli Sports segment. He covers his Baker logo deck and Independent trucks.

Why skaters like it

Posted in beginner threads as proof that narrow trucks on a wider deck can work. Reynolds rode an 8.5 deck on 8.0 trucks.

Reynolds,Slash,Ellington all did it (small trucks big boards) and Ellington was even worse with 8.0 trucks on an 8.625 deck, they are pretty squirrelly. This was before Indy 144 and Thunder 148 came out when boards were getting bigger but skaters needed something that they could get technical with (small wheels and trucks) and still have a big deck. I like to ride an 8.25 with 8.0 trucks just the right amount of a carvy for me I feel bigger trucks than a deck can feel too stiff but Jaws skates 8.5 trucks on an 8.125 deck, he's really into big drops not much of a carver or tech guy. So it's really all about what you want to do with your board I think. I feel like it's best to keep your ration within a 1/4 inch either way you go if possible and mostly go for a deck wider than your trucks with a few exceptions for those who want a really stiff set up. It's definitely a preference. Not sure about now, Andrew Reynolds used to ride an 8.5" deck with 8" trucks. So, it will definitely work. [VIDEO]

Unless his setup has changed, Reynolds actually rides 139's with an 8.5 [VIDEO] It just further proves your point though tbh... All preference!

You should be able to go up or down 1/4'' on your truck actual axle width. So if your trucks are 7.75'' then you could go up to an 8.0'' board without issues. There's always exceptions and if it feels comfortable to you, then just skate it. Andrew Reynolds used to skate an 8.5'' board on 8.0'' Indys. Source: [VIDEO] PS. On a recent Nine club stop and chat he said that he's now skating a slightly smaller board 8.25''-8.38''

Well I'm sure he could make a trick on a 7.5 if he had to, but yeah he's a pretty big guy. Here he is talking about his setup [VIDEO].
