Braille Skateboarding kickflip tutorial from its How to Skateboard series, episode 15. It uses slow motion footage shot by Darren Dyk (Skapo Skate) to break down foot placement and the flick.

Why skaters like it

Beginners link it whenever someone posts a kickflip clip and asks why the board will not flip right or why they land with the front foot first.

“You need to flick up and in an arc to the edge of the nose.”

Although you are successfully rotating the board, the location on your board and how you are rotating it is incorrect. You are flicking down and across the bolts. You need to flick up and in an arc to the edge of the nose. Have a look at the exact line where this guys foot travels: [VIDEO] I took a piece of chalk and marked it on my board a small arc where I need to run my foot.

Generally speaking, if your feet are hitting the ground before your board during any Ollie based trick it indicates you have not fully committed to the full motion of the maneuver, and have essentially bailed out... possibly due to low confidence or some major error in technique. This is going to take both physical practice of good technique and mentally visualizing yourself landing. Build muscle memory and an ‘I Can

Focus on moving your back foot above the board, or behind it, to allow it to rotate. It will usually force you to catch it with your back foot, fixing your problem of always landing with your front foot first. Also looks just like a little bit of a commitment issue. Braille skateboards have a video on kickflips. Check it out. [VIDEO] I think the issue is your back foot.... it seems to be pushing the board away. I hope the video I sent will help.

Catch the flip with your front foot first and then work on getting your back foot on. In your video you are kicking down with your front foot. Instead of kicking down, drag your foot up the board so you kick forward/up. Don't even worry about getting both feet on until you can catch with your front foot. Once you are comfortable with that, it will be much easier to then get your back foot onto the board. I recommen

It looks like you're flicking too late and then flicking down. I post this video a lot, but I think it's very helpful for learning kickflips. Watch the whole thing, but I'm linking to the part where I think you need to focus: [VIDEO] I think 1:07 - 3:20 will be very helpful in terms of getting the flick right and then practicing how to get that down. Good luck!

Yeah! This link [VIDEO] was the most helpful for me as far as foot placement and technique. Also my biggest problem for awhile was getting my back foot to land on the board (seems to be common for a bunch of people). Try getting the front foot flip down well enough to not really think about it, so that you can then focus on getting the back foot up high enough. Also also try all of this rolling - I had a much easier

It’s just one of those things man, it’s gonna take time to get it but when you do it’ll be amazing. Try and keep your body level over your board and keep a good centre of gravity so you don’t jump backwards/ forwards. Also don’t be afraid to get hurt, because you will get hurt at some point no matter what! Pop your backfoot nice and hard and your top foot be a bit more gentle.
