whythetrick breaks down the kickflip using physics, physiology and a 3D model. Covers the flick, knee position, timing, direction of pop, shoe wear and upper body use in about 10 minutes.
Why skaters like it
Linked in NewSkaters threads when someone's front foot flicks down or sticks to the board. Commenters say it explains the flick better than most tutorials.
“Your front foot is flicking down instead of out. That's why your front foot goes straight to the ground and lands under the board”

This is a very classic problem. Your front foot is flicking down instead of out. That's why your front foot goes straight to the ground and lands under the board This is my favorite vid for a deep dive and on how the flick is supposed to work [VIDEO]
I am still new, but, like another said, you seem to be moving all over the place. Opening shoulders, turning and jumping backwards, away. Similar to my problems. You also need to flick through the board at the side, not down. What clicked for me was holding on to an iron fence to lock me in place and give me the confidence to put my feet on the board no matter what. Might not work for you, but I suggest you try it. I
What you need to do is hover it and hold it up until the board flips around. No easy way around it. I'm struggling with the same thing. Once you get the hover better it's all commitment to land back. You are not flicking correctly if it is sticking to your front foot. This video changed the game for the flick for me, give it a try and see if that helps your flick be more consistent - [VIDEO] We'd have much better and
I think you would benefit from changing how you flick. You can create tension by flexing you ankle This is the most clear video to explain it [VIDEO]
I'm just going to leave THIS [VIDEO] here.
I agree with the others saying to pop more…I’d say also not flick as soon as you do. Check this YT video tutorial (this page has helped me tremendously): [VIDEO]
Yeah, it can be hard to understand everything just from a video clip. You might get something out of another source like [VIDEO] which usually is more detailed than Skate IQ. I tend to ask people at the skate park for advice when I do something new. Note: I can't even ollie myself, so can't really give good kickflip advice. I just try to help out the best I can.
