whythetrick breaks down the flick in a kickflip using 3D models and physics theory. Links to an interactive model page on whythetrick.io. Aimed at skaters who want to know why a flick works.
Why skaters like it
Recommended in r/NewSkaters threads on kickflip trouble. Skaters call it crazy helpful because 3D models show foot motion and board rotation instead of vague advice.

I'd recommend checking out this guy's videos [VIDEO], he breaks tricks down using 3D models, it's crazy helpful
Oh, sorry! Front *shoulder down. It’s from Arjun Shah’s kickflip tutorial. (Which isn’t the most helpful video in my opinion, but every tutorial tends to say something useful.) [VIDEO] Here’s the specific video on the flick not having to be that hard: [VIDEO] I do think the flick has to be harder once you start popping them really high and wanting to catch with the back foot, but I think it is probably useful to figure out the basic trick first.
so ure basically saying by the time ur feet are done with the motion in midair, ur feet are below the board? if ur front foot is below the board, you might be overpopping/overflicking. kickflip is very picky about the ratio between pop power and flick power. I had to relearn how to do lower ollies so that i could even get my feet above the board since i like popping my shit high asf lmao. as long as the ratio is correct and u jump high enough, the board will stay under u. then it's just a matter of whether u should jump forward, back, straight up, lean towards nose, or keep ur weight centered, all that shit. also do ollies every now and then between ur reps. if u want more details on overpopping and overflicked heres a link [VIDEO] and here [VIDEO]
