Best video on this specifically is probably whythetrick's "lower the nose to raise the tail" [VIDEO] wildefirecontent describes "opening up the front knee" which is a different way to describe a similar (but not identical) thing: [VIDEO] The way I think of it is to get out of the way of the board's rise. So, the way it's normally said is to scrape up and forward, then kick out. This will lose you the board. So instead, get rid of the scrape. You can't avoid scraping a bit, but the least force you put through the board as your front foot is rising, the higher your board will go. There's this idea that scraping the board somehow pulls it into the air. It doesn't; instead it keeps the board from rising. So get out of it's way by swinging that front foot back. This puts your foot backwards and on the nose of the board. At this point you can "hook" it by swinging your front foot forwards.
