Why skaters like it

Newer skaters get pointed here when they ask how to stop at speed or fix a first powerslide. Comments say it explains front foot control better than most.

At first, just get used to doing some of the smaller stuff, but to find the will, you kind of gotta force yourself for a few sessions and remind yourself why you wanna skate. As for stopping, I footbrake [VIDEO], which is basically sliding your foot on the ground until you stop, but you can also tailscrape [VIDEO] (I think that's the name) where you drag your tail on the ground to slow down, and powerslide [VIDEO], which is done at higher speeds, where you basically turn the board sideways for a sec and then turn back.

Jumping off is called bailing for a reason, man. That shit will eat your ankles & knees, especially if you're doing it at high speeds. It's a last resort because of how dangerous it is. If you're looking to bomb hills or maintain high speed, definitely look into learning **powerslides** ASAP. It'll save your body & shoes at the cost of your wheels, but they're the cheapest of the lot. * [VIDEO] * [VIDEO] If it's just cruising then I'll always suggest to be aware of your speed. It's addictive, man. But if you make sure you're always moving manageable, you'll never be halfway down something & hit with the realisation that you're going way faster than you intended. * Carving is a good way to manage your speed, but isn't effective in getting yourself to a straight stop, unless you do it long enough to kill your own speed. * The sole of your shoe is probably what most people rely on early on. Just step your back foot off your board & scrape it over the ground. Stomping it down is what's rolling your ankle. It'll grind out the bottom of your shoe though, which might or might not be a problem for you, depends completely on yourself. * [VIDEO]

Kinda, but not as much as you’re doing it. Yours looks more like your trying to use your front foot to turn the board, Like a switch kickturn almost. You really only want your front foot past the bolts just enough to help unweight the back. Ben Degros has an excellent tutorial that explains it better than I can. [VIDEO] Good luck 👍

Okay so your front foot should be your control foot and your back foot should be the foot pushing your board to a horizontal position, for more clarification here’s a video from Ben Degros [VIDEO] on how to power slide. This helped me learn
