Start learning to slide (cess slides and power slides). I love this guy’s videos…his instruction is great. Here’s a link to a great instructional on learning to stop well! [VIDEO]

(Apologies in advance for the long paragraph) Take it really slow when ur first starting, most injuries come from beginner skaters pushing themselves way outside their skill level without even realizing it. That's not to say u shouldnt ever push yourself but u should know your limits. You should start by finding a nice skatepark or empty parking lot or somehwere flat where u can skate. Start with the basics like being able to push, turn, kickturn, pick up and throw down your board, etc. As for stopping on a skateboard there isnt a super great way to stop, powersliding is a great skill to learn once but u have to be pretty comfortable on your board to learn that, so for now learn the foot drag this [VIDEO] video should help. If you're going really really fast this is not going to work and chances are speed wobbles are gonna get the best of u since your still a beginner, and it happens even to seasoned skaters. So please be careful and dont bomb a huge hill and try to stop with this, because it wont stop you fast enough, it'll be reallw difficult to do effectively trust me😂 its also a good idea to search up a video on how to fall so that u can help yourself sustain less of an injury…

Here's some videos I recommend for learning as a complete beginner. Skatepark Lessons is a great place to start. [LINK] I highly recommend his videos on pushing & stance [VIDEO], carving [VIDEO], kickturns. [VIDEO], and stopping. [VIDEO] Braille's videos on falling: How to Correctly Fall in Skateboarding [VIDEO] and How to Fall Without Getting Hurt [VIDEO]. I also suggest learning Parkour Safety Rolls [VIDEO] and getting those movements ingrained in your muscle memory for when you fall at high speeds. Videos on how to how to cruise and commute: NinjaLifestyle's GETTING UP A CURB, [VIDEO] Never Stop Improving's How to Ride off Curbs and Ledges [VIDEO] and Lotfi's 6 tips to cruise through urban obstacles. [VIDEO] The last video is for longboards, but most of the tips are still relevant to skateboarding. If you're interested in learning how to ollie for your commute, I can't recommend Sarah Park-Matott's channel [LINK] enough. She's a freestyle skateboarder who breaks down tricks to their essentials. Check out her 5 step method for ollies [VIDEO] and her video on safety and board control. [VIDEO]

[VIDEO] the foot drag is probably the best one for you to learn. if you're going downhill and you ever find yourself going to fast and you're too scared to foot drag you can try to make a wide turn around to try and u turn and go up hill. careful though on hills. you pick up speed fast before you know it. then i'd say the frontside power slide is a good one but that takes a little time to learn. you gotta be real comfortable on your board before you learn those.

Power slides (turning your board sideways) are quite effective if done right. But I do think you need more skills of various levels. So I suggest you watch this on how to stop, a video from skatepark lessons on YouTube [VIDEO] Nothing against power slides, I use them a lot, but it took me quite some time to control them.

For beginners it's the easiest to break with your back foot heel sliding on the ground on the side of board. Here's a video that I think will be helpful: [VIDEO]

Throw down and try it, meaning run with your board in hand and jump on it to start with speed. [VIDEO] Check out the 2 minute mark for what I am talking about.
