Ben Degros covers truck wheelbase in part two of his series. Lists measurements for Independent, Thunder, Venture, Royal and Theeve trucks against a 14.25 inch deck wheelbase.

Why skaters like it

Linked in new skater threads about pairing trucks with a deck and how wheelbase changes how a setup feels.

“… The trucks alone do not make a skateboard feel one way or the other... the whole set up does. …”

[VIDEO] This guy reviews the set up you’re going for. Personally I think 100 bucks for a deck is too much and if it were really that much better, more companies would be adopting similar technology. As for trucks, I don’t think weight is everything and this video [VIDEO] might help guide you. That being said, my preferred lighter models of trucks are Indy and thunder hollows. Don’t really mess with anything else since both those brands and tried and tested and they’re what I’m used to.

Just looked it up and my 8.38 board has an 14.5 inch Wheelbase. For the trucks, the indy 149 mids are 52mm tall. Maybe I can stay on 8.38 but get an 14.25in deck, maybe impact or flight deck, but still each indy is 403g, and on the other hand, magnesium might feel "tinny". I guess the sweet spot to keep some heft is on the hollows/forged/titanium trucks, maybe 15-20% lighter than mine? After today's session, I'm getting more used to it, and although it doesn't feel as boaty as the 8.5 board, and it has great handling with the indys, it still feels boaty when trying to manual and change direction. I don't want to go down to an 8.25 or 8 inch deck because I like the forgiveness of a bigger board. I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too, although still not sure if I will swap my deck or my trucks, chaning my trucks could be better in the long run but I'm not sure if i should try indy 144 before. This sport is a science and also an art, like when a musician can tell each instrument apart when listening and playing live. I still have to develop my ear in that sense, and I will be able to tell what's wrong or best for my style. I'll try to watch ben degros' explanation: [VIDEO]

OP asked about compatible boards. They are all compatible... The trucks alone do not make a skateboard feel one way or the other... the whole set up does. As implied by the question. The board kick angles, wheelbase and relative size/shape impact the ride, In addition to the trucks. The combination of trucks and board make the complete picture. It’s going to vary by actual truck and deck model too, not just “Indys” on “Brand X” boards. If you really feel some decks don’t feel right with the new trucks, it’s up to you to find out why... The following videos might help, but I have a suspicion OP has already watched them and misunderstood the info or is way overthinking this.
