Season finale of Jeff Grosso's Loveletters to Skateboarding for Vans. Grosso breaks down curb skating with eight street skaters and calls curbs a building block for all skaters.

Why skaters like it

Beginners in r/NewSkaters get pointed here when they ask what to practice. Commenters push curbs as a way to learn slappies, grinds and board control.

“start w/ slappies wax a painted curb”

when you begin to loose speed and think you are about to stop just frontside kickturn (or whatever side leads you back into the street) keep in manual till you drop on all four wheels and roll away and you got it . I know I post this constantly but I cant emphasize how important it is to get comfortable on you board just ripping around and learning stuff like this even before tryin to ollie what's the point of a stat

A couple nights ago me and a buddy moved a parking block to a better location, about a hundred feet or so around this spot I skate... You can easily move one of these (as long as nobody is around, that shit was loud) by placing the boards on each side around where the rebar bolts are, and place the block on the back bolts. They weigh 245 lb., and are quite dense, so you'll need 2 boards and a friend, it only takes on

They're hard to do. Slappies are a really old trick but kind of a dark art. They also don't really make sense, I've seen people slappy curbs that are higher than their boards/trucks are wide. It's like an anti-gravity horizontal wall ride. They talk about it here a bit: [VIDEO]

It's just some kind of layback grind. There's a couple in here: [VIDEO]

Watch this series man, if this won't get you stoked on the inherent pleasures of skating, not a whole lot else will. Get out there and go slappy a curb and bomb a hill [VIDEO]
