Why skaters like it

Linked in beginner threads when someone can't get a front foot back on the board or isn't sure how the toe flicks a heelflip.

“… Your front foot needs to go over and UP, not over and DOWN. …”

A big part of it is confidence... you're close to bringing your foot back onto the board, you just need to trust that you can and not step down to the ground afterward. That being said... Your front foot needs to go over and UP, not over and DOWN. Check out this video [VIDEO]. Put your mouse on his front foot and follow it. You will see that your mouse first goes up, then UP again and to the right. Now put your mouse on your front foot and follow it. It goes up, then DOWN and to the right. This is why you can't bring your foot back onto the board in time... your foot is already on the ground when it's supposed to be way up in the air! Notice the skater in the video... after the kick he brings both knees all the way up to his chest, while you have one knee up and your front leg straight down. Try to get both knees up and you should be able to land it!

I’ve always done them with my toe flicking my board just like a kick flip but on the opposite side. I’ve watched them done in full speed so many times and always thought that’s how heel flips were done. I watched this video [VIDEO] and that is where I saw you slide your toe up towards the heel flip area then complete it with the heel. I can’t wait to try and see if I finally lock this in knowing this.
