Skate IQ short on ollie technique. It argues that sliding or scraping your front foot up the board does not help, and that the ollie comes from a jump with tucked knees.

Why skaters like it

Posted in r/NewSkaters whenever someone asks about a weak ollie. Commenters use it to kill the front foot dragging myth.

“After learning myself I have found that trying to scrape your front foot just lines you up for failure, but what a simple way this video just sums it up. Jumping w/ tucked knees is the way”

No you dont. Sliding isnt a thing. Its a byproduct of the upwards motion of your leg. Watch some Skate IQ. He explains it perfectly and also has some slow motion. [VIDEO]

I don't agree at all that you need to press down hard with your back leg. In fact you are pushing down really hard and you shouldn't be. This motion where you throw your weight back puts you at the back of the board. How are you going to get over the board after you've done that? Start with a jump. Just a normal jump, equal weight on each foot. The nose will pop up whether you try to pop or not. So don't try to pop,

Mitchum Brusco has a very good way of breaking things down in easily digestible chunks. Also Mitchie Brusco is also a top notch bonafide world class skater himself and hit the worlds first 1260 and not just some guy who skates. (No hate on those channels) [VIDEO]

Think of it more like a jump while lifting your front leg instead of sliding it. This video [VIDEO] helped put this concept into perspective
