Linked in r/NewSkaters when someone mixes up frontside and backside naming. Comments back it up with ramp logic.

“Think of a ramp. If you ride up to the coping, kickturn towards the direction your toes are facing, your body will rotate such that your back is to the coping. That’s why it’s called Backside.”

I have heard it thousands of times - "Skateboarding is 80% mind and 20% physical" and for the most part believe it to be true. I skated when I was a kid and then didn't really skate for about 35 years. I never really got "good' but could skate the "basics" for the time period (this was before the flat ground Ollie that everyone wants to do on there first day skating today). I have always loved the sport (if you will.

I’m sorry but, No that’s completely opposite. Think of a ramp. If you ride up to the coping, kickturn towards the direction your toes are facing, your body will rotate such that your back is to the coping. That’s why it’s called Backside. Same with a Frontside kickturn/air/grind. Ride up the ramp, turn towards your heels (regular footed this is a CCW turn), my front is facing the coping. EDIT TO ADD… [VIDEO]
