Skate Hacks tutorial on the axle stall from 2019, with slow motion clips and simple pointers for learning it on a mini ramp or quarter pipe.

Why skaters like it

Beginners in r/NewSkaters point to it when learning axle stalls and asking what to learn after drop-ins. Slow motion clips make the movement easy to copy.

“… I'd learn axle drop-ins because if you get those down, you're halfway there and know what to do when you finally get the stall. …”

Hey! So it's taken me about a week of trial and error before I finally got it. First, I'd learn axle drop-ins because if you get those down, you're halfway there and know what to do when you finally get the stall. I'd recommend watching these [VIDEO] videos [VIDEO] cause they really helped me get the general idea, how to balance and the technique down. My personal advice is to wait until you feel your back truck lock into the coping before putting the front truck down, and turning your body while you're putting the front truck down. I had so many attempts where I'd try stalling too early on the front truck, killed all my momentum and had no choice but to jump off. Also, just commitment and practice I suppose. I did a 2 hour session today of essentially nothing but trying these and only landed about 10 or so. It's nice cause you can feel yourself incrementally progressing as you get each part down. First you'll feel the back truck lock in, then the front truck will hit the coping too, then you just gotta axle drop-in and you've done it! Stick with it man, I hope you get it!

They're pretty easy and so are feeble stalls. You need to be comfortable pumping up and down a miniramp because you will need to put in pump energy for landing on top of the transition. The motion is a last minute switch in direction, a useful tip I found is to use your front hand to point at the coping as you essentially do a 90degree kickturn so that this keeps your shoulder aligned. To stall you want to be travelling perpendicular towards the ramp, with grinds you come in at a very slight angle and this is super fun.
