Chad Caruso teaches axle stalls (50-50s) on a mini ramp in under three minutes. He stresses stalling on top of the coping instead of on the inside of the ramp to avoid bad habits and hang ups.

Why skaters like it

Gets linked in r/NewSkaters when beginners keep riding out or hanging up on axle stalls. Commenters point to it for truck placement on the coping.

“… before you come back into the ramp you gotta be sure to not have too much of the truck on the coping. …”

Hey! So it's taken me about a week of trial and error before I finally got it. First, I'd learn axle drop-ins because if you get those down, you're halfway there and know what to do when you finally get the stall. I'd recommend watching these [VIDEO] videos [VIDEO] cause they really helped me get the general idea, how to balance and the technique down. My personal advice is to wait until you feel your back truck lock into the coping before putting the front truck down, and turning your body while you're putting the front truck down. I had so many attempts where I'd try stalling too early on the front truck, killed all my momentum and had no choice but to jump off. Also, just commitment and practice I suppose. I did a 2 hour session today of essentially nothing but trying these and only landed about 10 or so. It's nice cause you can feel yourself incrementally progressing as you get each part down. First you'll feel the back truck lock in, then the front truck will hit the coping too, then you just gotta axle drop-in and you've done it! Stick with it man, I hope you get it!

Yes, if she’s goofy it would be clockwise. Basically before you come back into the ramp you gotta be sure to not have too much of the truck on the coping. If you watch when she comes back in her truck actually hangs up but manages to bump back over the coping. Here’s a trick tip from chad Caruso on it that’s pretty good: here [VIDEO] Yeah unfortunately the little rippers have some trouble learning some street tricks just due to dimensions of the board and their stature. I’m sure she’ll get the Ollie soon. Now that I’m thinking of it, backside boardslide on a small flat rail would be perfect for her too. You don’t really need to be able to Ollie to do them and it’s a good intro to slides and rails generally. You should be so proud! She’s a ripper!

For this particular video you're going way too fast to stall. You can tell from the first few seconds of the video that you're not gonna make it. One of the other things you're doing is you're having too much truck in the flat part. I'm not sure how to explain it but the coping should be at the middle of your truck not at the edge because when you drop down than you run the risk of your back truck getting stuck in the coping. This video explains it a lot better than me: [VIDEO]

It will be different if the curved transition has coping. If there's coping you'll need to learn how to drop in from a 50-50 stall. Just got those on short transitions recently. Try these videos to see how [VIDEO] [VIDEO]
