RIDE Channel Trick-a-Day tutorial from 2012 where Justin Schulte breaks down the fakie backside tailslide. Runs under three minutes with step-by-step instructions.

Why skaters like it

Gets linked in Reddit arguments over why fakie tailslides are named backside when the approach looks frontside. People cite it as the reference for the accepted name.

“Approach the ledge on your frontside, fakie pop into a tailslide, and everyone calls it a fakie bsts.”

You are right, someone certainly _could_ misidentify the trick, but they didn't. Logical or not, this is the accepted name for the trick. [VIDEO] [LINK] [LINK]

Think about it if it were a blunt slide or nose slide. Those are easier to see and are also frontside if the skater has the back to the sliding direction. Tailslides are opposite. The defining factor of whether the ledge is in front of you only works when you do the trick normally. Going fakie will turn your body, but it doesn't reverse the name of the trick. F.i. We call this trick Fakie backside tail, but if a truck was on it we’ll call it Fakie frontside crook… if the truck landed and he straightened out we’d call it Fakie frontside 5-0. Based on this logic, we should call the Fakie crooked grind version Fakie Suski but we don’t… Fakie trick names don’t make sense. OK, you're right that I've overgeneralized, but the main point is that it's very common to call this trick a fakie backside tailslide. Another example. [VIDEO] Different people have different names, and the logic is a little wiggly.

I've always been curious why this rule seems to get thrown out the window with certain fakie and nollie tricks. Approach the ledge on your frontside, fakie pop into a tailslide, and everyone calls it a fakie bsts. [VIDEO]

Just gonna keep posting this and if you can find evidence that says otherwise then it's welcome [VIDEO]

Nah Fakie literally means going backwards [VIDEO] Same thing applies to tailslides

I feel if i counter your argument with straight facts, youre not gonna see my point anyway so i wont bother much but im just gonna leave a few videos that show what im poorly trying to say here. A fakie backside noseslide is frontside on approach, then do a noseslide.
