Why skaters like it
Posted in r/NewSkaters whenever a heavier beginner asks if they can skate and what gear holds up. Shows a real setup instead of guesses.
“I'm 105kgs, and I've checked what bigger people ride (example: [VIDEO]). There doesn't seem to be that much difference in equipment besides bushings.”

Yes, you can. There’s evidence [VIDEO] for this. Just make sure you get one of the following lines of decks: Powell Peralta: Flight Creature/Santa Cruz: VX Girl/Chocolate: Pop secret All these lines from the mentioned brands are reinforced for that extra peace of mind. Not gonna lie, you are in for an expensive journey between top tier decks and how often you’ll break them, but man, if you end up liking skateboarding
remember seeing this video [VIDEO] about 440 lbs dudes setup might help
I'm 105kgs, and I've checked what bigger people ride (example: [VIDEO]). There doesn't seem to be that much difference in equipment besides bushings. Most will recommend Bones hard bushings. I think that the main difference has to do with respecting gravity and force. Get paddings, especially wrist guards to prevent breaking your arm or dislocating a shoulder. The wrist guards help your arms slide out. When you start
"Complete" boards (sold already set up with trucks and wheels) are not always a good bet. I know many do not have money to spare, but these boards can actually hurt your interest and progression in skateboarding. They can even be dangerous if used in extremes (like going down hill with any speed or trying tricks) . Do yourself a favor - save up some money and go to a skate shop, they can usually build you a board on
There are Powell Flight Decks and Santa Cruz / Creature VX decks which are stronger than a normal skateboard but they are a little expensive. If he gets a normal skateboard might be good to get one that is wider. This guy is 440 LBS and he skates, check this video where he talks about his setup. He does not even use a Flight Deck/VX deck but I did see him snapping a lot of decks in his other videos [VIDEO]
