Short Skate IQ tutorial on the basic corner pump in a skatepark bowl, showing how to build speed through a transition without pushing.

Why skaters like it

Recommended to newer skaters asking how to start in a bowl or how to carve. Pumping is the skill that comes before carving.

not bad. 3 main tips: 1. Bend your knees not your back (notice how your knees are straight but your back is hunched over) 2. Before you try to carve, learn to pump back and forth [This Video Will Change How You Think About Pumping] and maintain your speed without pushing. 3. Once you get your pumping down. then carving comes. Practice dropping in in a place where you won't have to make a hard right angle to start the carve, this destroys your speed. Then try to pump through each pocket [this video], some pockets take 2 sets of pumps, and try to avoid the bottom of the bowl. Think floor is lava. The more time you spend on the flat bottom, the less speed you can carry.
