Think of swinging on a swing, same concept. Raise up as you get higher and crouch down as you go lower.tony hawks explanation [VIDEO]

> e your last sentence. This mirrors our discussion we have regarding when to weight and unweight, is there another piece of When ridding through a corner you shouldn't push untill you are on your way back down. Maybe you need to go a step backward and just learn to pump on a mini ramp. Don't kick turn or carve at all; just go back and forth while pumping. Then you can really get a feel for what increases your speed. there are probably better videos to watch but this is the first one I found that shows what I'm talking about. [VIDEO] only problem is this video doesn't show him pumping very hard because he doesn't wanna get too much speed and have to start doing real maneuvers.

Good call. Here's a video for u/Civilized_Hooligan of Tony explaining it: [VIDEO] Most of the other videos I could find about pumping don't do a good job talking about pumping up as well as down the transition. This is another one that does do a good job: [VIDEO] Basically, you're bending your legs before you hit the bottom of the transition, and straightening them as you go up. As you come back down, you bend your legs again. Getting the timing right will accelerate you both going up and coming down the transition.

I would practice pumping first, going regular up and fakie back down, back and forth to get comfortable with the motion. Tony Hawk has a good video on the basic pumping technique. [VIDEO] When you feel ready to drop in, my friend helped me my first time by telling me to think of myself as an egg, slowly tilting forward. Stand on the tail of your board, with your back wheels on the ramp side of the coping. Get low, low enough to easily touch your board with your hands. Now rock smoothly forward and drop in. Don't lean too much forward or back. You have to lean forward to tilt yourself into the ramp, but you want your weight pretty even when you start to roll. You can get a better feel for this by skating on the ramps starting at the bottom, before you try dropping in. Good luck!

Ive been trying and trying to pump effectively for months and the other night I watched this and suddenly it just all came together. Watch "How-To Skateboarding: Pumping with Tony Hawk & Kris Markovich" on YouTube [VIDEO] Try lifting your front wheel at the top of your forward movement and really tapping it back hard and fakie roll to get use to the motion you need above the coping. You can start low and work your way up.
