PJ Ladd breaks down pop shove its on flatground in a short 2010 Flatground Fundamentals clip. He covers how to pop and rotate the board so it stays under you.

Why skaters like it

Recommended to beginners who scoop too much and struggle to land pop shove its. Popping straight down gets the board higher and spinning faster.

“… my pop shuvits got a lot better after I watched PJ saying to pop straight down [VIDEO]. They end up much higher and turn much faster, making them easier to catch in my opinion.”

Everyone is saying scoop, which isn't wrong, but my pop shuvits got a lot better after I watched PJ saying to pop straight down [VIDEO]. They end up much higher and turn much faster, making them easier to catch in my opinion.

try doing it fakie. i know its not exactly what you want, but its easy, shouldnt take you more than a few minutes. it will get you more comfortable with the motion of the board. try playing with the foot position on your tail. you'll eventually figure out something that works. by that i mean try it with toes hanging over the edge, then centered on tail, closer to pocket, etc. try not to get in the habit of your back foot going to the ground. thats tough to break. check out these videos if you havent already, pay attention to their feet in the slow motion parts: [VIDEO] [VIDEO]
