Why skaters like it

Linked in r/NewSkaters threads by people stuck on flatground ollies. Teaches pop and jump as one motion, with a raised back knee as key piece.

“The pop means to smack the tail off the ground, and from that grounded position jump. It's not two things it's all one thing. …”

Here's how to Learn the Ollie. The very first step resembles a raised jumping knee like in high jump or martial arts. Do not level the board with the front foot, do not bring the back foot up. Simply by smacking the back tail into the ground and jumping straight up, you should be able to get the back wheels off the ground. Congratulations you just did a rocket Ollie. Do this a bit more and try and increase the power/hangtime. Pay attention to the window of time where you could slide your front foot to level your board and begin to practice that motion as you bring your back foot up. It ALL begins by being able to get your back wheels off the ground using the fulcrum of the back truck. You don't need to do more to get air time. The other parts of the Ollie (front foot slide and back foot lift) are for control and level flight, and thusly hang time. Enjoy the journey. It will come. Here's a video: [VIDEO]
