GoSkate beginner ollie lesson, about four minutes long. Covers foot position, crouch, pop and slide, with a hand-above-the-nose guide tip at 3:14.

Why skaters like it

Gets linked in r/NewSkaters when beginners struggle with ollies. Commenters point to the 3:14 mark for the front hand guide and weight on the front foot before the pop.

“you can put front hand above the nose as a guide (like in this vid: [VIDEO] (3:14 mark specifically). focus more your weight on the front foot before the pop, during the crouch then pop”

try to be lighter on your feet (like on the balls of your feet) . Practising jumping over stuff also pushes you to ollie higher. also you can put front hand above the nose as a guide (like in this vid: [VIDEO] (3:14 mark specifically). focus more your weight on the front foot before the pop, during the crouch then pop & slide (simultanously), kick forward front foot and look down at your board to land bolts.

Ah ok, I can see how the surface would help in this instance. In a lot of trick tutorial videos people get on their board in the same way and watching closer it does move a little bit, so I guess you have to anticipate this and move with it. I’ll keep practicing. Here’s a video with the guy getting on in the same way [VIDEO]
