One-minute ollie tutorial from Jonny Giger, a YouTube short covering the basic motion: crouch, pop, slide the front foot and level out. Aimed at skaters still trying to get the ollie.

Why skaters like it

Gets posted in r/NewSkaters whenever someone asks about ollie height or getting the back foot up. Short enough to rewatch and copy the crouch.

“You gotta bend your knees when you do it and jump. What you're doing is the equivalent of trying to jump while keeping your legs straight, you can't really do it and won't go anywhere”

You gotta bend your knees when you do it and jump. What you're doing is the equivalent of trying to jump while keeping your legs straight, you can't really do it and won't go anywhere, but if you bend your knees and crouch down you can get a lot higher. Watch this Ollie video, it's hands down the best one you can find. [VIDEO] Also watch this video shows you what the best foot positioning is for an Ollie. [VIDEO]

Practice some squats, you're not really jumping at all, you're doing like a side to side shuffle. Bend your knees and practice squats while on the board, that'll really help with your balance as you charge up for a trick. Watch how far down the dude in this YT short squats to charge up for a big Ollie: [VIDEO]

[VIDEO] do it step by step and then combine them. i just bought skateboard it been 10years when i skated i only can do ollie pop show 180 .and kickflip after 100trys. but for me dry practicing front foot slide kick helped in ollie and flip tricks

I have been skating for as long as I can remember (35+yrs) and the ollie takes a long time to master I still practice it all the time I probably touch a skateboard once a day at least lol. The mechanics and timing of the motion is critical as you gotta pop and gain as much height as possible, and then “float” to keep up. Staying squared or centered on the board as you pop and land. Not easy to explain without visual

Thanks a lot! But wouldn't having the rear foot near the tail help it make it pop better? Example here [VIDEO]

You’re right, I forgot a kick flip doesn’t build off the foundations from an Ollie, my bad. I posted that as an example that a stationary trick like that, you’d be looking down going against what the other guy said: Stop looking down at your feet. For a basic ollie, especially stationary, you shouldn't have to look down at all. This will also help you ollie higher because you can lift your head more and not crane you
