## Background I've tried many different skate disciplines over 20 years. I won a slalom race, I rode down Alpine roads at 80km/h, I pushed 200 miles in 24 hours, and I grinded the coping in a 3m-deep bowl. Still, I didn't feel worthy of calling myself a skater because one trick was still missing. I was afraid to die because my last thought would be "Shoot, I never landed a kickflip". ## Video tutorials If anyone's in
Keep at it! You’ve got this. As others have said, you’ll definitely need to jump more. A non-obvious thing is that you need to pop at the last moment in your jump, as your body weight is already lifting off the ground and about to leave. Then, the pop will snap up your nose, and you pull that up and forward with the side of your front foot. The pop timing is super important. It’s very, very easy to unintentionally ho

pretty close but more like jump, pop, slide. if you watch a video of someone doing an ollie in slow motion you'll see it's their ankle that does the work to snap the tail and not your leg. in slow motion the back leg will be almost completely straight as they are jumping up and at the very last second they snap the tail to go up with them. [VIDEO] check out that video at 2:50. at that exact frame you can see his back
I find that the balance is very important for a good Ollie. If I lean too forward, backwards, left or right, I end up with a bad Ollie. One way to practice is to ride around with your foot in the Ollie position and be on the balls of each foot. Another important aspect is the timing. I found it easier to practice the timing while stationary since it is not as scary and I can focus better. Skate sage has a good tutori
Your back foot doesn't actually stomp the tail. You want to jump and when your legs are pretty much straight you push down with your ankle to create the 'pop'. A good tutorial - [VIDEO] A good slow mo video so you can see all the actions put together - [VIDEO] A bit of extra advice is to make sure you're really comfortable on your board and to try them rolling ASAP! Good luck mate, you've got this!
The tricky thing about ollies is that you "jump" before popping the tail. You have to build momentum with your upper body to lift you off the ground, the motions that you do with your feet are for the board to go with you. [VIDEO] This video explains it in great detail.
