Why skaters like it

Linked in beginner threads when someone flicks down or can't get a foot back on the board. Slow mo shows the ankle flick off the nose that explains why a kickflip spins.

“Watch slow mo videos of people kickflipping. You want to hit the nose, but the main flicking action comes from your ankle, not your hole leg.”

Things that helped me most: * Remembering to lift my back foot up * Trying various front foot placements and aiming for the little 'cup' before the main bend in the board (these things must surely have names). Ended up with my foot about an inch away from the bolts and my toes an inch down from the edge * Jumping (duh) * Keeping my shoulders square and in-line with the board * Leaning back slightly (for me really mea

You've got chickenfoot, which is something I (and many other people) have had at one point or another. Your foot is flicking straight down to the ground when it should be flicking up and out over the nose like this [VIDEO]. First do this [VIDEO] over and over and you'll probably have an easier time breaking the muscle memory of flicking straight down. It took me a while, but just remember that you really need to flic

You are flicking down. This does get the board to flip, but ends up with your front foot under the board. (This can also cause the board to rocket easier and you don't want that lol) What you want to do is flick off the nose like you would with an ollie, except with more of an ankle roll and off the heel side of the nose. You're getting the board to spin by bringing your front foot down at the point where you should already be flicking your front toes outward away from the board. It's very much an ankle movement. When it's done right it will help level out the board. At no point should your front foot be below your board for the entirety of the trick. I think when people are learning kickflips they often end up doing this downward mot

You're flicking down. Watch slow mo videos of people kickflipping. You want to hit the nose, but the main flicking action comes from your ankle, not your hole leg. It's this little flick of the angle right before your foot goes off the nose that causes it to flick. You can test for certain if you're flicking down by trying to keep your front foot in the air. Plant your back foot right after you pop and try to keep th

I have trouble understanding, if you're attempting to do what people do when they kickflip successfully, how you're managing to have your toe go off the toe side of the board. Do you start with your front foot on the heel side of the board? When you pop, are you somehow kicking away from you with your back foot (like for a FS shuvit) so that where your front foot scrapes is on the toe side? Have you had a look at the

You flick the board with your ankle/foot rather than actually kicking the board. Its a very subtle motion. Position yourself like you are going to do an ollie, but instead have mor eof your front foot hanging off and at more of an angle as usual. Now pop down like you would an ollie and instead of sliding your front foot up like your normally do, flick the board instead. Remember to jump with the board as well so the

You can really benefit from starting out with your front front further back near the middle of the board. Gives you more room to slide and make the pop way easier. At least go til your legs are not like /\ this. [VIDEO] Try to see what the record holder, Aldrin Garcia does and to mimic the amount of bend that he gets before jumping from his ankles, knees and hips. Might not be easy at first cuz it requires flexibilit
