Skate IQ tutorial from Mitchie on why ollies rotate and how to stop it. Covers three fixes: feeling your chest, feeling your hamstrings and shifting the board forward, plus the lunge and common opposite mistakes.

Why skaters like it

Linked in NewSkaters threads whenever someone's ollie turns frontside or backside or the board goes behind them. Commenters sum it up as a balance fix.

“Skate iq vid on the turning. I see it already it's because when youre squating you're leaning forward too much. Weight shouldn't be on the balls on your feet but more toward the heel.”

[VIDEO] Skate iq vid on the turning. I see it already it’s because when youre squating you’re leaning forward too much. Weight shouldn’t be on the balls on your feet but more toward the heel. You’re squating and your weight is toward the front so when you just up you pull your weight back and up and that makes your board turn. Along with shoulders.

It looks more like you're turning frontside. Some vids from directly in front of and behind the camera could be helpful. Mitchie does has a good video on some possible solutions to this [VIDEO]

You’re probably not balanced when squatting causing you to end up toe side and jumping frontside, really common! Some good tips in this skateiq video to try [VIDEO] You can try to overcompensate by doing a backside rotation with the board, and focus on being balanced on the balls of your feet!

I'm still new too so take what I say with a grain of salt, but the board twisting like that is usually due to your balance when you load up for your jump. Try to make sure the board is level at the lowest point in your squat. See below SkateIQ video because it covers this exact issue: [VIDEO]
