Mike Osterman of Waltz Skateboarding shows how to tic tac on a skateboard in a short freestyle trick tip. Covers the heel-toe pivot that pumps you forward on flat ground.

Why skaters like it

Posted in r/NewSkaters whenever someone asks about balance, turning or pivots. Regulars say it helps general control, not only freestyle.

“I have shared this link so many times it should be pinned. Ignore all the freestyle talk, unless your into that. This has helped a ton of others. …”

Try to lean into your heel as you step “backwards”. This heel-toe movement is what will kinda pump you forward during tictacks [VIDEO] We talk about it in our spacewalk trick tip too [VIDEO]

Learn how to tictac. Was gonna explain but a quick Google gave me this amazing video. This will help multiple aspects of skating besides just the freestyle stuff. [VIDEO]

it would help if we could see what it shoulders are doing aswell. first your legs are straight as hell, you’d want to have them bent for stability and so you can lean more without falling. second you’d get speed by pushing from ur heel and ur toe at different part of ur tic tac from ur back foot. this is where leaning more into each turn would help massively. third the range of which the board moves is very limited in the video. if you watch others do tic tacs you’d see that they bring the board almost 45 degrees infront and behind their body. As a new skater I often end up not really following his advices exactly. He seems cool and all but I found other YouTube videos that helped me a lot more than his videos. Like for example when I was learning about how to move around doing tic tacs I found that videos like this [VIDEO] and this [VIDEO] helped me more than his other videos. Even for the most basic shit like pushing, I found videos like this [VIDEO] that helped a lot more than his video on pushing. I'd still watch his tutorials from time to time, like his Ollie tutorial, but I still find other videos more helpful in general. It's good supplementary material though.

2nd the tighten trucks some and being a bit more comfotable on the board to strt. While cruising on flat ground learn to tic tak. [VIDEO] That will help you control speed and do pivots, both very helpful in the long run. When (not yet) youre ready to go up the slope you will be able make the pivot (a tic) and come back down. And you dont have to go all the way up the slope to turn pivot back down.
