Adam Shomsky films Kelly Hart landing flat ground kickflips at 1,000 fps on a Redlake N3 camera. Shot at the Sole Tech lab in Lake Forest, California, with one clip on a force plate. Used in ABD's Physics of Skateboarding: Part 1.

Why skaters like it

Posted in beginner threads as a clear look at a clean flick. Skaters point to how Kelly Hart flicks off the nose and keeps his front foot out of the way until the catch.

“Compare this flick to your flick. Notice how much space there is between his front foot and the board. He flicks straight off and keeps his foot out of the way until the catch.”

Alright. My credentials that I’m giving you kickflips tips cause I do the trick (annoying disclaimer but have to give it cause people can’t do the trick but give advice. It’s like someone giving a chef cooking tips but they can’t boil water): [LINK] You’ve got a lot going on tbh. People are saying to think of it like an Ollie, and I wouldn’t suggest that. Because people take their direct Ollie stance and try it like

Your flick is way too much off the side, bring it up more off the nose of the board. Like, pretty much kick forward, not sideways. Edit: good example [VIDEO]

Try flicking more towards the nose, to get the down to prevent the "rocket kickflip". Always keep in mind that you wanna catch the flip with your "popping-foot" like Kelly Harts Kickflip [VIDEO] (Notice he's flicking of the side nose, and not the side) And about the pop, try popping more with the toes, and yeah, just practice! It'll come eventually. And like all the others say, try with some speed! :D Keep it up!

Damn dude you are really close and when you find the tweak you need to make I think you're going to have these pretty consistent. I'll say the obvious is you need the board to spin faster. You can do this by snapping your ankle faster for a more intense flick. I think the main problem with your form is that you are keeping your front foot under yourself a lot, you really do want that foot to go out _past_ the nose as

Flicking off the nose/pocket is good! It's the most proper way to do it: [VIDEO] I feel like the main problem is the board rotating backside i.e. going varial and also the board landing in front of you. Maybe try keeping your weight more centered over the board (basically lean forward more over the toe side as you jump) to keep it under you. It looks like your weight is pretty far back over the heel side.

Your flick isn’t really fast enough to get the board all the way around. It’s hard to describe, but compare your front foots motion to this [VIDEO] one. His laces are almost touching the grip before he flicks. Don’t overthink it though. You really are very close. Landing with both feet on the board with any flip trick is a good sign.

You need to keep your balance over your front bolts nearly the whole time while you're learning to rotate the board. You're leaning way too far on the back bolts, which when you do learn how to rotate, will lead to rocket flips. Leaning forward also forces you to commit to the landing, so commit to it. Even if you land upside down, as long as both feet are on the board, you're heading in the right direction. Look at
