Physics Girl (Dianna Cowern) and Rodney Mullen explain the physics behind skate tricks, including the impossible and 360 shuv. Tricks are filmed at 1000fps on a Phantom high speed camera. Covers the intermediate axis theorem.
Why skaters like it
Gets linked when skaters ask about the physics of the impossible or why a 360 shuv-style rotation is so hard to control. Mullen demonstrates the tricks himself.
“It's actually the most difficult axis to rotate the board around. You HAVE to walk the board around with your foot because the rotation is too chaotic without direct control.”

It's actually the most difficult axis to rotate the board around. You HAVE to walk the board around with your foot because the rotation is too chaotic without direct control. This is an 'impossible' with a similar concept [VIDEO] Here's a video that explains the rotation [VIDEO] Good job OP! That's such a sick trick
[VIDEO] If you're going for pure semantics, no, you're not doing impossibles. You're doing 360 shuvs guided by your foot. Video above takes you through the wonderful journey of why an "impossible" is impossible (or at least borderline impossible. That doesn't mean your tricks suck. This is dope, so keep skating and enjoying your time on the board, dude. Tl;dw: an impossible is meant to be the board doing a back flip,

Same here man. I was fortunate enough to get to work with Rodney on a video project [VIDEO] and he is every bit as awesome a human being as he is a talented skater. Dude is inspiring for sure.
It's because you're not touching it with your front foot. Treflips and 3 shuvs are very similar, difference is that the board naturally wants to do a flip when you rotate it 360 degrees because of some physics reason, i forget the name of it, so you need to use your front foot to keep the board from doing that while it spins. Because of this arguably, 3 shuvs could be considered harder than treflips Edit: The physics
