Posted in r/NewSkaters whenever someone asks how to push, relax while pushing or get more speed. The 3D graphics make the motion easy to copy.

Practice and push as often as possible. And follow this: [VIDEO]. And keep your front foot pointing straight forward while pushing.

You need to build knee strength and balance until you’re comfortable coasting on one leg. Practice will get you there. Even stationary in front of the TV will help. Other random thoughts: Look forward, not down when you’re pushing. Try to push from in front of the board not beside/behind it. Lean forward a little. Pushing with the ball of your foot is a good way to make sure you’re not stepping off the board, but in the long run you want a smooth motion that uses the whole foot and ends with a push from your toes. When you’ve got some speed up the push/swing needs to be faster than you expect. Keep the knee on your board leg bent but not rigid; smooth pushing requires it to bend more as you begin the push, and more again through the push. [VIDEO]

You have plenty of comments covering balance, exercise, and confidence. But I just wanted to add a couple videos to help with cruising around. There are specific techniques to pushing and stopping that I think are best explained with visuals: * [VIDEO] * [VIDEO] * [VIDEO] * [VIDEO]

You've got some great advice here already, but I thought I'd link to these two vids that I really like. I've also been trying to improve my pushing. *Pushing Skateboard [VIDEO] *How To Push Off on a Skateboard [VIDEO]

When going fast, I have my front foot positioned somewhere just ahead of the center of the board and turned almost all the way forward. That helps with the balance in that direction. I keep pushing with all my weight on that foot and only put the back foot on the board when I need to cruise or slow down. Basically riding it with only one foot. Something like this guy in the start of the clip: [VIDEO]

when you push, keep 90% of your weight on your front foot (the one on the board). your pushing leg should do a big sweeping motion that has barely has any weight on it. the momentum of the sweep is what you should use to “push” yourself, don’t put weight down on it here’s a quick video that kinda exemplifies the ‘sweeping’ motion i mentioned [VIDEO] good luck! keep shredding 🤘🏻

When you push, start with your leg in front of you, swing it down over the ground, then back behind you. Right now, you are pushing straight down at the ground then behind you. You'll get more power more easily with a longer swing. Watch this video [VIDEO] for nice slomo of the large swing from front to back.
