I had the same issues you mention until a couple days ago! The first time i landed on the shuvit it slipped and I fell hard on my side (made me scared to fully commit for a couple of weeks). The other times i just didn't fully commit and i would land my back foot on the floor all the time. I tried it again on grass/holding on a fence and I got the footwork right but I still wouldn't land on it (or i would step on the wrong side of the board and fall). In the end it just clicked. For me the main issues were: I didn't need to scoop so much because it would make my board pop and I was just trying to shove-it, not pop shoveit. The second thing that I needed was to jump forward in order to fall on the board. A couple of days ago i found this video that explains the most common mistakes when doing shuvits and how to fix them shuvits [VIDEO]. I hope this helps!

As some say it's just a case of committing your back foot to also bring it back up to a position where you can direct it back on the board. As practice you can try touching your knee after a jump [VIDEO]
