Braille Skateboarding tutorial from the Lance Live Skate Support series, 2014. It fixes a common ollie problem where the board turns mid-air, tied to upper body and arm movement.

Why skaters like it

Linked in r/NewSkaters whenever someone's ollies spin or drift sideways. Skaters point to the opening minutes on shoulder and arm position.

“Your left arm rotates behind you causing the board to turn. 0:50 of this video should help you. …”

That's a pretty good ollie man, your just turning back, my guess is because your upper body is turning. So try to keep your shoulders straight facing forward. Your head as well. Maybe focusing or looking at something ahead of you might help to prevent your head/ shoulders from turning. Also I know I recommend this to everyone and your probably already done it so me repeating it is just annoying but... braille skateboarding has a video on exactly this. There's a video where Lance is having this exact problem and they give a lot of tips to help him fix it in real time. Edit: here's the link: video [VIDEO]

You're pulling back your front shoulder as you already know. But the main problem here isn't that, but rather that you're not committing. You clearly immediately step off backwards with your "back" (tail) foot. As I look more at this video, you're jumping backwards with both feet, but only step off with the back foot, so your front foot is then leading the board frontside, which is causing the entire board to turn. In other words, you have to fully commit and be ready to take a slam. Btw I don't think holding on to the pole is helping you keep your shoulders square. You may want to try a different technique to help you with that - I usually tell people to do this [VIDEO].

I had the same problem until yesterday. It's all in your upper body. It's explained pretty well in he first few minutes of this video. [VIDEO] I figure our brain thinks we're taking a step forward with our front foot first and the natural inclination is to swing the front hand back. Hard habit to break lol

Here is a video of Braille Skateboarding. He explains an arm movement that you could try to keep your shoulders straight. This is also the video that was mentioned in the video in the other thread. [VIDEO]

So much this. If you care to watch the beginning of this video, it sorta explains why this happens. [VIDEO] I swear once I get the ollie down, I'm gonna be a significantly happier skater. Haha.

> In 5 days? Wow, that's insane! Yeah it really is lol. But that's how fast you could do it. Lance, before this, could barely ollie, but a good teacher will make you fly through all the basic tricks. Here's the first one, i'd suggest watching all of them and seeing if you can find similar problems between your and his skating. [VIDEO] > I keep kicking the board forward while movin Your scoop is messed up then. It's all in the ankle. Similar to how you use your wrist to play drums and not your arm, you use your ankle to flick and scoop the skateboard. Yeah 180s are really easy. You could start on them any day you want because it's just an ollie with a shoulder turn.
