Skate Basics #7: How to SLAPPY NOSE STALL

One thing unconventional I liked to do to get more confident with riding fakie and kickturns: wall pushes. Ride up to a wall slowly. Push off, so now you're fakie. Then kickturn to your normal stance. Nice thing is you don't need a ramp or anything. But ya, you generally want to turn and face the way you're riding.
