Why skaters like it

Linked as the reference whenever someone asks what a can opener is or how to learn one, including as a stepping stone toward impossibles.

“If you have access to a good bank spot, learn can openers. It's a goofy oldschool trick but it helped me learn to impossible on flatground.”

He's combining some movements from several old freestyle tricks but he's not really *doing* the tricks since he's standing on the ground on his other foot the whole time. This is much more of a goof around than a guy doing real tricks. If you did each trick for real you'd have a 50/50 stand [VIDEO], then a can opener [VIDEO] to rail, and a rail flip [VIDEO] out.

If you have access to a good bank spot, learn can openers [VIDEO]. I say "bank" and not "quarterpipe" because it can be tricky to drop in fakie. It's a goofy oldschool trick but it helped me learn to impossible on flatground.
