Dan Corrigan of Keen Ramps explains how to lock into a frontside smith grind and hold it without getting stuck or slipping out. Covers tips for getting used to an awkward grind.

Linked in help threads from skaters struggling to lean back and hold fs smiths. It breaks down the setup and body position for that grind.

I have not landed any back smiths yet. But a few front smiths on ledges and front feebs on rails. So take what I say with a grain of salt. Back smith are pretty advanced and require good board control so you will have to practice a lot. I had a similar issue with my front smiths where my front toes land on the ledge. My issue is the 50-50 reflex of putting my foot on the ledge and the initial fear of commitment. It's like missing a 50-50 on purpose. It took me a while to lose the fear. Once I managed to overcome this fear and commit to leaving the front foot on the board things started to work. At first I had too much weight on the front and the nose would dip and slide away sideways. But with practice I managed to shift my weight further and further back. That's when it started sliding. A smith should feel like a weird 5-0 and not like a 50-50. You want to hit the spot where you can't put more weight on the back foot because it would cause you to slip out backwards. Dan Corrigan has a nice video on youtube explaining it on a front smith [this video] but I think it applies to a back smith too. I can recommend stalls as a first step to learning any grind or slide on a ledge. Stalls are r…

Oh shit my bad. For some dumb reason I thought you were saying back smith. Feeble is much easier than smith and they are both easier on a rail. I recommend getting them both down if you haven't already. If you don't have easy access to a rail then just don't beat yourself up over it, box is hard-mode. I also found this video extremely helpful: [this video]. Good luck and sorry for being a dick originally.
