I lived in Shenzhen for a few years and was heavy into the skating scene there. This Vice part [VIDEO] does a decent-ish job of showing some spots and talking about the scene there, but it's definitely far from perfect in its representation of the scene. Can you speak Chinese, or will you have someone there with you who can? The number one spot where you'll find skaters hanging out is the Civic Center, home of the fairly famous manny pads that you can see at 17 seconds in this video [VIDEO]. Actually a lot of the spots in that video, and a lot of modern parts, are filmed in Shenzhen. Anyways, at the Civic Center spot, especially on the weekends, you'll find an assortment of skaters there. Mostly Chinese, with a complete range of skill levels. Kids just learning to ollie and pros who ride from the Vans China or Converse China or whatever teams all skate there alike. It's my favorite spot in the city and is a gathering point for the skate scene. If you end up going to Shenzhen you have to check out 1985 skate shop, it's located in Buji and is, in a lot of ways, the lifeblood of the skate scene there. If you decide to go to Shenzhen I can put you in contact with some skaters thru WeCh…
