Nick Boserio rides Portland's Zoo Bomb hill on OJ Wheels Super Juice, a 78a cruiser wheel with a reinforced plastic core. Filmed by Elias Parise in 2017, with Polar Skate Co ties.

Why skaters like it

Linked in beginner threads about cruiser wheels, 78a softness and powersliding. It shows what a soft wheel does on a real downhill cruise.

“… I've seen some OJ Cruisin' vids [VIDEO] on youtube and some of the pro's [VIDEO] seem to powerslide those 78a wheels without too much issue. …”

Yep no problem, starting skate 2 months ago with 8.5 » deck, and 60mm 78a Santa Cruz (big and wide wheel). Was wondering about olling this things. Finally I bought ricta 54mm 78a and I did 2 months only with them. Was close to Ollie decently rolling. I put back my 60mm 78a Santa, with 1/4 » riser, and I think I Ollie better with them rolling.. pretty stable, no much diff. And it’s so better than ricta to cruise on hard roads (or soft too). I don’t have to be pay too much attention when I was looking with ricta. I can go pretty fast everywhere. Look at this for people speaking about soft/big wheels and/or speed lol : [VIDEO] And if I can Ollie nicely with them after 2 months skateboarding.. no problem for shov it or 180 neither (but need to be correctly done). Ps: I never ride in skateparks, that’s also why, I learn everything in the street with car, people and dogs. I will just go now in skatepark for bowls . Enjoy riding :)

That's interesting. I've seen some OJ Cruisin' vids [VIDEO] on youtube and some of the pro's [VIDEO] seem to powerslide those 78a wheels without too much issue. But then I've seem some threads on here [LINK] that say doing so would ruin your wheels. Maybe it has something to do with the Spitfire wheel formula in particular, as opposed to the durometer? Either way, I ordered some 85a Powell G-Slides, which seem like a nice compromise between soft riding and sliding.

I ride a normal shape deck 8.0" with cruiser wheels 60mm. I cruise around and do flatground tricks no problem at all. Check this cool video out! [VIDEO]
