You can rock up the curb. Feet on your nose and tail, you raise your nose above the curb, when your deck touches the curb, move your weight to your front foot to bring up the back wheels over the curb. The faster you go, the easier it is, once you get it down. Edit: like this: [VIDEO]

Here's some videos I recommend for learning as a complete beginner. Skatepark Lessons is a great place to start. If you lift up your front tucks to get the front wheels over the crack and then put your weight more towards the noes like you about to do a nose many you should be able to make it up pretty easily. However this might take a bit to get the hang off especially if you don't know how to manual. kinda like in this video but up a crack [VIDEO]

As for something that small, this will help, even though he's using a big curb [VIDEO] A hippie jump could work, the problem with this though is if your board doesnt have enough weight it my pop up to high, or possibly just move out from under your feet.

Imo that'll be a great commuter. Best part about pintails is that you can kickturn and slurp up curbs (manual up, and then put weight on the nose to bring the back up) [VIDEO] this is what i mean btw

I have a question about this trick? [VIDEO] It appears this video maker makes it look so easy but I rarely see anyone do this in practice and some say its even harder than ollie up is this correct? I am assuming that it may be even harder on the board, trucks, or wheels kind of like bumping a bike up curb as opposed to lifting the wheels first?

I'd say don't manual, just lean back put your weight on the back foot but the front foot stays on the board too. That way if you happen to lock on the curb you can (or have to) put weight on your front foot so you don't fall and that might push your back trucks over the curb. Like ninja does here: [VIDEO]
