Tony Hawk demonstrates and explains 21 skateboarding tricks in rising order of difficulty for WIRED, from the ollie to the 900 and heelflip 720, covering both ground and vert skating.

Why skaters like it

Newer skaters share it to see a path of what to learn in what order, and for Hawk's breakdown of ollie mechanics.

“it helped me a lot figuring out some concepts for tricks, and a sort of path in what to learn in what order!”

I’m a beginner too, haha. I lucked out at a skate park and some dude told me I would never Ollie the way I was doing it. He told that I really needed to focus on sliding the side of my foot up the board and that I need to try doing it while moving. He said learning it standing still would mean that I would just have to learn it all over again when I tried to do it while moving. There’s this great YouTube video [VIDEO

[VIDEO] Tony Hawk was 51 when this was filmed, he landed up to 360 Aerial, Frontside 180 Heelflip (vert), and McTwist before needing to fall back to previous footages.

IMO your left foot doesn't push it enough on the regular ollie. I've ollied 6 boards or so as a record, but I suck at fakie ollie, so I'll focus on the regular one. You almost have to get your left foot up to the top of the board in order to capitalize on the pop your right foot does. And you want to jump just a little bit (using your left foot, obviously, since your right is on the part of the board in the air) righ

Do you still need help? If so, I suggest you watch this following vids. repeat the steps tells until you get a hang of it [VIDEO] when bending your knees (also if you want to have higher ollie) [VIDEO] and how tony hawk do it. [VIDEO] Apply and simulate all and see for your self. I couldn't have explain it better but this helped me a lot. Have fun skating.

Haha nope. One of the greatest skaters of all time outside of being a teacher. Check out the end of this video. At the time this was an NBD, but Tony Hawk described the 1260 as the 21th level of skating: [VIDEO] Only one person has made it to lvl 21. That's Mitchie.

Nice man! Keep it up! I thought the mechanics in how Tony Hawk described how to do an Ollie pretty insightful: [VIDEO]

Here’s a link to the latest one I watched.- he breaks a bunch or tricks down - and the Ollie is on there. [VIDEO]

Tony Hawk recently did a video with Wired that sorta answers this: 21 levels of skateboarding [VIDEO]. Spoiler: it’s Mitchie Brusco’s 1260 from the X Games 2 months ago. But he’s focusing on “hardest” rather than “greatest”, and he’s talking about pure flat/vert tricks. Also he’s mostly talking about the pure trick, not the difficulty of the spot/conditions/etc.
