31F here. Learned longboarding around your daughter’s age, then picked up skateboarding a few years ago. For me, skateboarding is the main way I make friends, build community, and go outside. As a community, it’s changed a lot in the last 10-15 years. It’s a lot more inclusive now, and I meet tons of other women, queer, trans, and non-binary skaters. If you’re in a big city, see if there’s a program or meet-up for female/gender-diverse skaters. Skateboarding is awesome, and people who love it LOVE it. But it’s also very very very difficult. It can be frustrating, and it can hurt. Protective gear and a good board helps, but what really helps is friends and a community. Sidenote: filming is a big part of skating. If your daughter likes social media or making videos, this can be a source of inspiration.
