It seems like a bit of a self-esteem issue in addition to the skating. I'm not criticizing either, I used to be mortified to skate in front of anyone at my age (38, but I'm a guy, sorry)., but it's something you can learn to get over. I really think younger kids would be impressed to see a woman skating. Where I live (Tokyo) I see a fair amount of women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s skating. There is even a girls night/
