I moved from cruising to skating around this time last year. Normally, I'm the sort of person who flickers from interest to interest, getting overwhelmed by choice and forgetting about it. Skateboarding turned into a full blown addiction - I was so unwilling to stop skateboarding during injuries that I made them 10 times worse. Still, nothing permanent. I think the key to the motivation had been finding a great group of people to skate with who were all around my level. Although now we've all graduated, it's harder to draw on that energy. Skating alone isn't the same. I landed my first kickflip a few months ago, but I feel like the recklessness I had at the start, the willingness to eat shit and to try a trick 1000 disappointing times, has diminished a bit. I need to work on my mental focus. AVE's words here ring true. [VIDEO] Obviously I'm not a professional skater, but when he talks about "you've already won", I guess we can all look back at things that felt impossible not that long ago, now feeling like second nature. I travelled around Japan with my board, that turned out to be an awesome way to explore a city. A local: [LINK]
